Swiss Accidentally Invade Liechtenstein

Switzerland has invaded Liechtenstein. They’re very sorry.

What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein. According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back.

A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion. “We’ve spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it’s not a problem,” Daniel Reist told The Associated Press.

There’s a Swiss Army knife joke in there somewhere, I’m sure.

  1. They tend to do this about once a decade. It just goes to show you what happens if you don’t secure your borders. Next thing you know, your border is as porous as Swiss cheese.

Ha, when I was stationed in Minot AFB, ND, we took nuclear weapons bound for missile sites across the Canadian border by accident a few times. Talk about Ooooops!

I love how all the liberals complain and moan when we invade Iraq without their permission, but they get very silent when one of their socialist Euro allies does the exact same thing!

  4. DC Loser says:

You must have misread the post. It’s Switzerland, NOT Sweden. The Swiss are the last people you’d ever call socialist.

Certainly the SVP is conservative by European standards–but they only commanded 27% of the vote in the last election.

The SPS, FDP, and the Greens are more typical of Euro socialists.

Nevertheless, any country that close to France has to be filled with commies.

  6. See, this is why they shouldn’t have deactivated the 201st Yodeling Battalion, which provided echo location during previous exercises.
