The Most Offensive Political Ad Ever?

David Catanese explains:

Turn Right USA is up with an incredibly incendiary web ad that accuses California congressional candidate Janice Hahn of enabling gang members to get out jail “so that they can rape and kill again.”

The 99-second above spot speaks for itself, and is not affiliated with Republican Craig Huey’s campaign, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has already called on the tea partier to condemn it.

(…)

The ad shows a woman, unquestionably meant to portray Hahn, on a stripper pole while a pair of “gangbusters” sing “Give me your cash bitch, so we can shoot up the street.  Give me your cash bitch so we can buy some more heat.”

This one makes the Jesse Helms affirmative action ad seem tame by comparison.

I suppose they could have hired fat white lawyers to come and try to get gang members to bail out of the life. Or not tried anything at all to discourage recidivism. I’m not saying that “gang intervention counselors” who used to be gang members themselves are necessarily going to accomplish the objective of actually rehabilitating prisoners, but at least it seems reasonably calculated to move towards that goal.

As for Janice Hahn, there are so many other things that she could be criticized for. They really didn’t need to go there. And like most SNL sketches, even if you ignore the fact that it is in appallingly bad taste, this joke went on about three times longer than it needed to, crossing the line into tedium and repetition less than halfway through.

They said the same thing about the Willie Horton ad. Of course by “offensive” what the left really meant was “effective” and damn it we don’t like it when our foibles are called to account.

    The truth hurts, Skippy.

Along those same lines, let us see more ads where grandma is thrown off the cliff by nasty Republicans because they want to gut Medicare to give tax breaks to rich people…as you write, the truth hurts, and at election time, such ads will probably be very effective…

  6. mantis says:

Dodd’s good friend Robert Stacy McCain defended the ad. But don’t call him a racist!

    The truth hurts, Skippy.

Oh yeah? All black people are gangsters, and the councilwoman is a booty-shaking stripper? FOAD, Skippy.
