The Heaving Pukes Who Write Gawker and Wonkette

Jack Shafer has an amusing piece in Slate with that headline, subtitled, “Nothing like an abusive headline to grab your interest, eh?” The short version is that he’s none too impressed with these popular blogs, but he apparently reads them constantly.

OK, I admit it: Wonkette has become one of my must-reads. I don’t expect Deep Thoughts, but there’s a market for monofilament fluff, and I’m apparently a consumer in it.

I will never forgive her for starting later and getting more traffic than me, though. 🙂

  2. Jack Shafer is just…strange. As evidence, I offer two quotes:

Now, where I came from, if you intend to kill the puppy for fun, you must first make friends with it for a few days so there’s a whiff of surprise when the slaughter arrives.

    And his closing comment,

…treat both blogs as you would a loaded staple gun. Instruments of fun, but best used with caution.

Or maybe it’s just a contrast of my literalist/engineering bent with Shafer’s more imaginative mind.
