Donald Trump, Birther

From yesterday’s appearance by The Donald on The View:

Why does anyone take this fool seriously?

Jonathan Capehart is having none of it:

P.T. Barnum is often credited with saying, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” And now we have Donald Trump out to prove it within the Republican Party by flashing his birther credentials again.

(…)

“If you go back to my first grade, my kindergarten, people remember me,” Trump declared.

Of course people remember him. Everyone always remembers the obnoxious, know-it-all kid loudly hungering for, demanding and getting attention.

(…)

If you still believe that President Obama was not born in the United States then you have proven Barnum and Trump right.

Indeed

“Why does anyone take this fool seriously?”

What is he saying that the vast majority of Republican leaders haven’t? Being at least uncertain of Obama’s citizenship is apparently a prerequisite for being taken seriously by the current Republican electorate.

  2. G.A.Phillips says:

I for one could care less if Obama was born here or not, I, as a matter of personal belief believe they should change the law to lived here(legally) for 20 years.lol well….and But, Trump is not being unreasonable and makes some good points about the left and their sympathisers.

  3. matt says:

Who cares what the dude does or says just as long as he makes them there liberals mad!!!!

Why does anyone take this fool seriously?

Last election one of the only two parties that can reasonably control the most powerful economy and military on earth openly mocked evolution.

The inmates are running the asylum. Birtherism is actually a sort of quaint symptom compared to the myriad ways that facts are ignored by the wingnuts.

  5. Gary says:

I always find it interesting how “taboo” subjects bring about such visceral reaction. My gut informs me that there is probably credence to an issue when shouting, slobbering and slurring Whoopi Goldberg starts flailing her arms and legs in outrage (a metaphor for public employee unions).

I have to ask my mom if my birth was announced in the local paper. Trump said he had a little doubt – that is reasonable to me. Why such over reaction to an honest sentiment?

Ah, the old, “If Whoopi gets upset, it must be true” standard. Yeah, that pretty much fits with birthtard standards.

  7. jwest says:

One of the prerequisites for making a billion dollars is having the sense to know that when someone is hiding a document, there is something in the document to hide.

  8. mantis says:

If you’ve made a billion dollars, I’ll eat my hat. Plus, you don’t have the sense to know that Obama isn’t hiding the document. He released the only birth documentation the State of Hawaii issues years ago. Birthtard.

  9. commonsense says:

This thing can all be put to rest if Obama would release his original long form birth certificate. What ever happened to common sense in this country? The request is not unreasonable but the insecure lefties would rather put a label on the people making the request in an effort to shut them up. Name calling is always easier than debating the facts. I believe that Obama was born in the US and think this issue is insane but he is the only one that can put it to rest.

  10. mantis says:

Why can birthtards not read or recognize reality? Hawaii issues one type of birth certificate, and one type only. It is proof of birth for all government institutions, including the US State Dept. He released this document years ago.

What ever happened to common sense in this country?

Idiot birthers happened. They were around and had no common sense before Obama, but now they’re easier to identify.

    The request is not unreasonable

    Actually, it’s quite unreasonable.

the insecure lefties would rather put a label on the people making the request in an effort to shut them up.

There is no request to be made. The only request for birth documentation in the State of Hawaii will get you a COLB. It’s the only official birth document they issue. Obama got that and released it to the world.

Name calling is always easier than debating the facts.

So is being stupid and repeating the same lies over and over. That’s the birther M.O.

I believe that Obama was born in the US

    Sure you do.

  11. commonsense says:

Mantis- A little sensitive aren’t you. Do a little research before you spout off. You will find that Hawaii issues a long form birth certificate which Obama has never released. Those annoying facts always get in way but I am sure you have a few more names to call me.

  12. mantis says:

Do a little research before you spout off.

I’ve obviously done far more than you.

You will find that Hawaii issues a long form birth certificate which Obama has never released.

More birthtard bullshit. I suppose you have another retarded birther response to this, or you’ll just not bother to respond.

When we spoke to a spokeswoman for the Hawaii Department of Health, she said too much was being made of the difference between the so-called “long” and “short” forms.

“They’re just words,” said spokeswoman Janice Okubo. “That (what was posted on the Internet) is considered a birth certificate from the state of Hawaii.”

“There’s only one form of birth certificate,” she said, and it’s been the same since the 1980s. Birth certificates evolve over the decades, she said, and there are no doubt differences between the way birth certificates looked when Obama was born and now.

“When you request a birth certificate, the one you get looks exactly like the one posted on his site,” she said. “That’s the birth certificate.”

As for the theory that Obama’s original birth certificate might show he was foreign-born, Okubo said the “Certification of Live Birth” would say so. Obama’s does not. Again, it says he was born in Honolulu.

Those annoying facts always get in way but I am sure you have a few more names to call me.

You wouldn’t know a fact if it landed on your face and started to wiggle. The names I’ve already called you will suffice. You’re a birthtard. Embrace your birthtardery.

  13. commonsense says:

Mantis- I love you man. Go watch some more MSLSD and have a beer summit. You need to relax brother. Look at the quote you disputed me with- “there has only been one form since the 1980’s”. I will let you figure out what is wrong with that statement. Here is a bone for you- http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=252833 . Read and learn my friend.

  14. mantis says:

Wow. You are far gone. The WND article that completely misstates what the governor said? That’s your response to the fact that they don’t issue any other type of document? Not only does that idiotic article not dispute that fact at all, it gets the basic facts it is addressing wrong.

Ok, birthtard, I’m done with you. Enjoy your gleeful idiocy, and keep reading WND.

  15. Robert in SF says:

    A couple of points:
I don’t read Trumps statements as being a birther, I believe he is calling the President a coward, politically stupid, and/or ashamed of something on his birth certificate (hand-signed, to avoid the BS of debating long form vs COLB)…

Trump says that he believes President Obama has a bc, but he should show it….my theory is complicated by the whole “no one remembers him”…and some of his other caveats in the conversation.

So Trump is saying, why doesn’t the President just show it and end all this? How can he be so stupid? Or is there something there.

My other point is about the the point Whoopi/Barbara makes, or alludes to briefly: if he were to track down the BC his mom/grandma may have had in her files, and distributes copies, then from that point forward, everyone will have a precedent to demand all kinds of crazy requests, to try to drown the President in all kinds of BS claims…it’s the camel nose in the tent argument, yes, but in this case, I think there is enough common sense to see that coming. So President Obama says, I have shown a certified copy as issued by the State of Hawaii, it’s been reviewed by more than a few independent groups, and we are done. No more acknowledging this, so we don’t end up having to fight every rabbit trail an opponent wants me to lead me down. *That’s* the politically strategic move…

  16. David in Wisconsin says:

from the standpoint of being able to make an argument without having to resort to name-calling and vulgarity, commensense certainly wins out over mantis

  17. Eric Florack says:

Whatever else can be said about all of this, there is one fact that those pouncing on statements like Trumps in defense of Obama cannot deny:

The path toward delegitimizing the birthers and giving Obama and his followers a huge credibility boost is rather simple ; produce the birth certificate.

They have not, and the reason seems simple enough; they cannot.

  18. mantis says:

    They have not

    Yes, in fact, they have.

  19. Robert in SF says:

    @ Eric F:

I don’t think showing his birth certificate (again), or showing whatever photocopied version he may have in his personal effects of a BC with a signature on it would *delegitimatize* the birthers…in fact, it would legitimize them, as I pointed out in my earlier comment.

If he did, then the next demand would be for some other evidence of some other absurd claim they have grasped at in order to harass the President they wish weren’t.

  20. Mary says:

Obama turns 50 this year. His mother was pregnant before Obama’s father married her = shotgun wedding. That was scandalous back in 1961. Obama was probably told to just leave his birth certificate alone if mentioning it bothered his mother as a reminder that his parents felt obligated to get married, not because they loved each other. They divorced when he was two. The story about Obama’s birth is most likely an emotional one. Heck, Natalie Portmann got nasty comments made about her being pregnant out of wedlock. Can’t Trump even imagine what it was like back in 1961?

  21. Hangtime55 says:

It’s about time a prominent person comes out and asks Obama about his origin of birth . FYI , I take this ‘fool’ very seriously . Why are so many out there bashing Trump when they haven’t done the research ? I bet you a quarter that everyone who thinks that Obama IS a U.S. Citizen and qualified to be President HASN’T done the research . They watch the Mainstream Media , FOX , MSNBC , CNN and believe whatever the Liberal Media say ??? They think that the MSM is right just because they are the MSM ? If you remember , the MSM bashed the Tea Party Movement for months and after the Nov. 2nd elections where 35 House of Rep. Seats were claimed by the Tea Party backed Candidates , the MSM had to eat crow the day after . Hey people , do your research before you call Trump a fool . If you can do the research with an open mind , then you’ll see that there is something wrong , and if you do the research and refuse to believe it , then who isthe fool ?
