Florida Governor Uses Teleprompter To Tell Joke About Obama Using Teleprompter

Speaking yesterday at the Republican P5 gathering in Florida, Governor Rick Scott decided it would be funny to tell a joke about President Obama using teleprompters:

The first-term Gov. Scott (not known for his public speaking skills, to be sure) started reading his speech off a set of prompters at the podium. As he started talking, the state GOP sent reporters the prepared version of his remarks.

You know where this is going.

From the prepared remarks (complete with what appear to be prompter directions to emphasize the joke):

“Good afternoon, and welcome to Presidency 5!

“I have to admit, I was a little nervous when I looked out here. I saw all the TV cameras and a teleprompter. I figured President Obama must be here – giving another speech about raising taxes!“[emphasis in the original]

First of all, someone needs to tell Scott that the “Obama uses a teleprompter” jokes stopped being funny about two years ago. Second, the teleprompter is a tool and criticizing a politician for using it is kind of lame. Third, if you’re going to tell a joke about the President using a teleprompter, it would probably be a good idea if you weren’t reading it off a teleprompter.

Stopped being funny? That implies they were funny to start.

  2. Varuka Salt says:

Ironic he should make a joke about tools, when he’s the biggest tool in the room.

  3. G.A.Phillips says:

They stopped being funny for me when I figured out why he uses them. But some of them was good at first, because of the great orator thing in relation to them always being used.

Now we have so many jokes because of him the teleposer thing should be long forgotten and was highly inacurate.

Does Obama’s teleprompter also tell him when to use “his negro dialect “?
He was sure into it in front of the racist socialists called the CBC!

I really wonder about this Obama teleprompter thing. Do conservatives believe that it is abnormal to use a teleprompter? Do they believe that Republican politicians memorize their speeches? If so, why do they think it is a good use of their time to memorize? Fifty years ago people had speeches typed out and you could see them glance down from time to time to read their notes. The modern version of that is the teleprompter. Sometimes I wonder if wingers have any connection to reality whatsoever. They seem to exist in this bizarre alternate universe where reality is what the most contemptuous ignoramus says it is.
