Iranian Leaders Want To Ban Dogs

That’s it, now they’re crossing a line:

TEHRAN — Thirty-nine of Iran’s 290 parliamentarians have tabled a motion to ban dogs from public places, as well as private flats, according to media reports on Thursday.

Dogs are considered “unclean” by Muslims.

However, in recent years, man’s best friend has started to appear in some wealthy districts of northern Tehran, where dog owners can be seen perambulating their pooches in streets and parks.

There is no official estimate of the canine population, but it is unlikely to exceed a few thousand.

“Walking dangerous, unhealthy or unclean animals such as dogs in places and public transport is forbidden,” states the bill, which specifies that violators will be fined $100 (69 euros) to $500 and that “their animal will be confiscated.”

Similarly, the draft bill states that “it is forbidden to keep such animals in an apartment.”

A police circular already forbids dogs from cars and from being walked in public places, but the law is barely enforced.

Keep your hands off Fido, Ayatollahs.

    This will not stand. We must resist!

    Therefore, I’m sending my wife’s two dogs — the cuter one that pees everywhere, and the ugly one that howls — to Tehran as a sort of expeditionary force.

    A Muslim minicab driver refused to take a blind passenger because her guide dog was “unclean”.

    Abdul Rasheed Majekodumni told Jane Vernon she could not get into his car with the dog because of his religion.

    Islamic tradition warns Muslims against contact with dogs because they are seen as impure.

    The case emerged as Jack Straw was embroiled in a controversy over Muslim women wearing veils and the row continued after a Muslim police officer was excused guard duty at the Israeli embassy. Today Mrs Vernon, 39, from Hammersmith, said: “This experience was very upsetting.

    “I was tired and cold and just wanted to get home but this driver made me feel like I was a second-class citizen, like I didn’t count at all.”

    Mrs Vernon, who works as a legal officer for the Royal National Institute for the Blind, added: “The owner of the minicab firm, Niven Sinclair, was also very insensitive, telling me that what had happened to me wasn’t really very important, and I should have more respect for other people’s culture. They have shown very little respect for my rights as a disabled person and have never once offered me an apology.”

    An Iranian guy I knew had a cat in Iran, and joked that he didn’t know until he came to America that you had to feed them. I guess it keeps the vermin down.
