Report: Romney/RNC Raised $100 Million In August

It looks like the GOP had another successful fundraising month:

Mitt Romney raised $100 million in August, his campaign told bundlers last week in Tampa.

Romney campaign finance director Spencer Zwick revealed the tally during an event with top fundraisers on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention, according to a source who was present.

The Romney campaign did not respond to requests for comment on its August fundraising tally, which it’s likely to release publicly in the coming days.

August would be the third straight month that the three main committees boosting the GOP nominee — Romney for President, Romney Victory and the Republican National Committee — have combined to surpass the century mark.

For May through July, the Republicans have also beaten Obama and the DNC in total fundraising. It looks like August will make it four, and give the GOP quite a heft bank balance heading into the final stretch.

Remember, in 2008 Obama’s fundraising prowess was an indisputable sign of his superiority, of his greater popularity — to the point where he broke his promise to use only public funding for his campaign.

Gee, I wonder if we’ll hear the same sort of thing this time around?

Isn’t that up to FoxNews and the rest of the mainstream conservative media establishment?

What a waste of good money. That’s, what, $400 million not being spent on something more useful.

Hell, we could have almost seven $60 million dollar stadiums for that.

So many issues are extraordinarily difficult to address when elected officials are beholden to their campaign’s monetary backers. $100 million is a lot of political favors. And the Obama campaign is raising a similar amount. I will be donating $3 to any major, national candidate that voices strong support for campaign finance reform up until the election.
