Republicans Get Early Christmas Present As Donald Trump Leaves Party

The latest stage in the Donald Trump publicity campaign that pretends to be a political movement came today when Trump announced that he had changed his party registration to “Independent”:

Donald Trump changed his voter registration Thursday to Independent, his special counsel confirmed to The Hill.

“[Trump registered] in order to preserve his right to run as an Independent after the finale of ‘The Apprentice’ in May, if he is not satisfied with whom the candidate is,” Michael Cohen told The Hill.

Cohen added that Trump is unhappy with how the Republicans “are handling the payroll tax issue” and how the Obama administration “continues to allow China to take advantage of the trade agreement.”

Trump recently pulled out of moderating a Republican debate, saying he has not ruled out a presidential bid himself. He mentioned earlier this month that he could run as an Independent in 2012.

Of course to learn The Donald’s intentions, he’d like you to watch every episode of Celebrity Apprentice.

Comments

  1. Interesting, does he know capital-I Independent is different than independent?

  2. It’s a Festivus Miracle!

  3. Apparently the capital I is in error. Other reports say “unaffiliated.”

  4. Jeremy says:

I’m assuming that he hasn’t joined the Independence Party–that’s a big third-party in New York–but that does trip up a lot of people.
