Romney Picks Up Another Conservative Endorsement

Just days after picking up an endorsement from New Hampshire freshman Senator Kelly Ayotte, Mitt Romney is set to get the endorsement of another conservative Senator in an Iowa appearance today:

Republican Sen. John Thune of South Dakota will endorse Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney in Iowa on Wednesday.

The endorsement is set to be announced as the former Massachusetts governor campaigns in Des Moines, according to Dave Kochel, Romney’s top strategist in Iowa.

The South Dakota senator passed on mounting a White House bid himself earlier this year.

In the 2008 presidential race, Thune – a rising star in the Republican Party -supported Sen. John McCain.

I’m not sure if these endorsements really matter, although Thune does apparently have some pull among conservatives in Iowa. Nonetheless, it seems clear that the political establishment of the GOP is doing what it can to put its weight behind Mitt Romney at the moment.
