This Is The Voice Of The “Occupy” Movement?

The PJ Tatler passes on this video of a speaker at the “Occupy Los Angeles” protest:

Occupy L.A. Speaker: “One of the speakers said the solution is nonviolent movement. No, my friend. I’ll give you two examples: French Revolution, and Indian so-called Revolution.

Gandhi, Gandhi today is, with respect to all of you, Gandhi today is a tumor that the ruling class is using constantly to mislead us. French Revolution made fundamental transformation. But it was bloody.

India, the result of Gandhi, is 600 million people living in maximum poverty.

So, ultimately, the bourgeosie won’t go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class.

Long live revolution! Long live socialism!”

Crowd: [Cheers.]

This is the “mainstream” voice they want America to hear?

We went over this when the Tea Party stuff started. Activist protesters are not part of the mainstream. Period.

  2. Yes, yes, of course, you find a video of one speaker out of thousands to use as a brickbat! Congrats! Never mind that the Occupy protests have been completely non-violent and never mind that the speaker, from what I can gather and having spent a vast amount of time in India, is speaking more about India than the US. By all means, use this to smear a non-violent and organic movement springing up all over the country! I think you might have a future on CNN.

I did note when you said a day or two ago:

P.T. Barnum is reputed to have said (but probably didn’t) “I don’t care what they say about me, as long as they spell my name right.”

Thank you for your OWS post of the day, Mr. Barnum.

Is it possible to get an RSS feed of OTB posts that excludes Doug Matconis?

  5. An Interested Party says:

Sarah Palin must feel neglected…she’s been discarded and replaced with OWS…

  6. Vast Variety says:

If this was a Tea Party rally, I’d be forced to claim this guy was a Liberal plant. Since it’s a OWS rally I’m forced to claim its a Right Wing Plant.

  7. john personna says:

    @An Interested Party:

At least we can do better than Palin supporters, by knowing the right time to get bored.

  8. @Vast Variety:

Yes and I’m taking note of the fact that the people posting “outrage” videos of Tea Partiers two years ago are ignoring the same kind of thing coming from OWS

  9. john personna says:

    @Doug Mataconis:

    Troll ignored.

  10. george says:

The Democrats like to concentrate attention on the wing-nuts among the Tea Party, the Republicans like to concentrate attention on the wing-nuts among the OWS. As always, both parties are more interested in politics as team sport than anything resembling good government.

The mantra for both is: if their team does it its bad, if our team does it its good, the five percent loonies in our party are anomalies, the five percent loonies in their party are representative.

Its just fun to read about because the hypocrisy on both sides is so blatant.

I’d say that “same kind of thing” was a bit of an understatement — the OWS are far worse behaved than the Tea Partiers were. The Tea Partiers got their permits, picked up their trash, didn’t defecate on police cruisers (makes me wonder how the police unions feel about that), and didn’t get themselves arrested.

Which, of course, makes them the REAL terrorists…

    J.

  12. Axel Edgren says:

    “didn’t defecate on police cruisers”

No one TASED or TEARGASSED the teabaggers.

  13. Jay Tea says:

@Axel Edgren: That’s because the Tea Partiers didn’t break the law, dipshit. Cops don’t break out the tasers and pepper spray based on political affiliation, but on the conduct of the people they’re dealing with.

And are you saying that there are circumstances where it’s acceptable to drop a deuce on a cruiser?

At least, I think that’s what you’re saying. It’s hard to understand you with that scrotum in your mouth.

    J.

This retort might be effective if we weren’t communicating via text. Of course, lame and ineffective retorts that you think are clever are your calling card, so far be it from me to dissuade you from making yourself look stupid.

Jay Tea takes the art of embarrassing himself to new heights. Why am I not surprised?

  16. @Jay Tea:

That’s because the Tea Partiers didn’t break the law, dipshit. Cops don’t break out the tasers and pepper spray based on political affiliation, but on the conduct of the people they’re dealing with.

Anyone who’s been paying attention knows cops routinely resort to tasers and pepper spray on people breaking no laws, merely because many cops have control issues and a habit of freaking out on anyone who doesn’t “respect thar authoritah”. I don’t think the protestor beatings are politically motivated, but neither are they proof of lawlessness on the part of the protestors.

  17. anjin-san says:

but neither are they proof of lawlessness on the part of the protestors

I saw video of a man who apparently was doing nothing wrong (beyond taking video of the proceedings) get his head bounced off a parked car by a cop, and a woman who was certainly no threat getting a generous dose of pepper spray to her eyes.

Just as David Crosby once let his freak flag fly, Jay Tea is proudly waving his tool flag.

  18. Jay Tea says:

@Stormy Dragon: Arrests of OWS protesters are closing in on 1,000 — which is about 1,000 more than the total number of Tea Partiers arrested. I’ll take that as evidence — not proof, but evidence — of the OWS being more “lawless” than the Tea Partiers.

    J.

  19. David M says:

Just based on demographics I’d expect more arrests during the OWS protests. However arrests alone isn’t a very useful statistic unless the protestors are actually charged and convicted. Absent the conviction part, why would the arrests reflect negatively on the protestors?

  20. Jay Tea says:

Alternately, one could just look at the pictures and videos taken of the OWS and the Tea Party events, and use one’s own judgment about who’s causing more of a disturbance…

    J.

  21. mantis says:

Alternately, one could just look at the pictures and videos taken of the OWS and the Tea Party events, and use one’s own judgment about who’s causing more of a disturbance

They both cause disturbances. That is the point of protests. The only difference is your political preference.

  22. Jay Tea says:

@mantis: They both cause disturbances. That is the point of protests.

Kind of like how Timothy McVeigh was just like my neighbor and his illegal fireworks? I mean, they both made things go boom without a permit…

Good lord, that was weak of you.

    J.

  23. David M says:

@Jay Tea: Even I think it’s insulting to compare the tea party to Timothy McVeigh.

  24. Axel Edgren says:

    @Jay Tea:

“At least, I think that’s what you’re saying. It’s hard to understand you with that scrotum in your mouth.”

What’s wrong with having a scrotum in your mouth? Is that supposed to reflect poorly on my character – having a scrotum in my mouth regularly or occasionally.

That’s kind of like saying “It’s hard to understand you because you have red hair.” – it is not only bigoted and juvenile, but nonsensical.

  25. G.A.Phillips says:

lol, damn You libs live in your own world……What color kool aid does the sky rain?

Ya they let mostly all the flying monkeys off the hook in Madison, because the cops are from freaking Madison…and they looked the other way for most of the charges and tickets, they was dismissed by other marxists in my Capitol.

  26. Jay Tea says:

@Axel Edgren: Don’t you DARE be dissing redheads. I have a totally unreasonable and inexplicable fascination and obsession with redheads, and I will NOT tolerate their being impugned.

Well folks it would appear we’ve found GA Phillips “special friend”.

The internet is indeed a scary place.
