    Oh. My. Dawg. Now they are arming themselves with leaf blowers. Do you know the damage one determined anarchist can do with a leaf blower??? Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.

    You can see how quickly the leaf blowers can push the gas out.
    It was extremely powerful tonight compared to last night.
    Some leaked into my mask and it definitely stung. You can see people’s reactions.

    Meanwhile, televisions stations owned by Sinclair are broadcasting a report with the screen crawl stating “DID DR. FAUCI CREATE COVID-19?”

  4. Teve says:

    The pro Trump company Sinclair, that bought up a bunch of local TV stations? They’re airing The Plandemic, a conspiracy video that was kicked off of YouTube which says that the novel coronavirus was invented by Anthony Fauci.

    If FoxNews/OANN/Breitbart/Sinclair/etc lead to a complete political rupture, it won’t surprise me.

    ETA dang Moosebreath beat me.

    Turns out, when you keep canceling and moving the Republican convention, you don’t get your deposits back.

    A revealing passage:

    Republicans have publicly expressed support for Trump’s decision, but some GOP donors are upset he opted not to go forward with an in-person convention.

    “This is the cancel culture run wild,” said one top Republican donor.

    Uh, that’s not what “cancel culture” means. Of course, many in the Republican donor class struggles with the definitions of other terms, such as freedom, opportunity, rule of law, fit for office, racism, and greatness.

    @OzarkHillbilly: You’re completely mischaracterizing the situation in AR. It was very clear from the pose of the two men in the main frame of the video were in “starter’s position.” Clearly these two unarmed men were preparing to sprint the 50 or 6o yards to the line of courageous and heroic police officers, knowing that their element of surprise and amazing kung-fu/krav maga skills would overwhelm the keepers of the peace. We’ve seen this countless times.

  15. Just nutha ignint cracker says:

    @Teve: Indeed. I’ve made some of those same arguments myself. Beyond that, the theology that carries the belief in the agency of the individual would argue that it’s not anyone else’s place to decide what another can/cannot/should/should not do.

    Hear the voice of God. Don’t hear the voice of God. Believe. Disbelieve. All your choices, not mine to demand.

    (And yes, my voice is not welcomed in many circles of religious people I have encountered. Doesn’t trouble me. Their choice.)

    Remember when we were all speculating what a hurricane will do during a pandemic? Hawaii is about to find out. Cases here are already spiking the last 2 days. I wish I could drink an adult beverage.

    Regis Philbin has died. Natural causes. He was a month away from his 89th birthday.

  23. Dutchgirl says:

    @Sleeping Dog: Thanks. Some predictable, but still interesting issues have cropped up, such as the fact that many Red Cross volunteers are older in age, and there has been a 70% drop in volunteers since the pandemic. There is also a shortage of medical people to staff emergency shelters, and the designated shelters have to figure out how to social distance the folks that come in. My shelter is a school, which would have to be thoroughly cleaned (again) before students and staff could start the school year August 4th.

  24. CSK says:

    @Dutchgirl: @Sleeping Dog:
    And Hurricane Hanna is about to hit Texas, which is not doing at all well. Eight hundred bar owners are going to by God keep their establishments open in defiance of Abbott. Good luck to them.

  25. KM says:

    @Kingdaddy:
    “Cancel culture” is the new right-wing shorthand for “reality is making me face consequences for being an ass and making me deal with it”. It’s not surprising for a group that labels everything they don’t like as PC. Of course you’re not getting deposits back – the GOP has gone to bat for businesses to be able to screw the customer and guess what you guys are? You were dumb enough to book a major gathering during a pandemic, you deserve what you get. Frankly, I’m surprised they’ve not getting a bill considering work that would have been done already for cleaning, set-up, supply procurement, etc. Losing the deposit is the best case scenario at this point!

    @Dutchgirl:

    I know a few Red Cross emergency services volunteers, average age 75.

    @CSK:

    For Hawaii this will be a tragedy. For Texas it will be just deserves.

    Would anyone care to explain how capitalism is so great, particularly during a pandemic? Some people want to complain about things like the 1619 Project, while it is very obvious that some of the nastiest remnants of slavery are still with us…
