PINGING

You may have noticed that many blogs, including this one, indicate on their blogrolls the sites that have recently updated. In order for Blogrolling or other link services to “know” when a site has last been updated, it is necessary for the site owner to “ping” weblogs to transmit that data. Some sites do it automatically. For more rudimentary sites like mine, it must be done manually. At any rate, several of the sites on my blogroll have updated regularly but never show HOT! because they don’t ping. I would encourage all of you with blogs to do so.

The instructions are here if you don’t know how to do it. It’s pretty simple. (Hat tip to Amish Tech Support for displaying the link so prominently on his page that it was the natural place to go for it.)
