From Brexit blame game erupts again: how leaving EU came back to bite Tories

    comes this little gem:

Brexit had “failed”, Farage had said. Britain had “not actually benefited … economically” from leaving the EU. And who was to blame for this sorry state of affairs? “Useless” Tory governments.

Where have we heard this whine before? “Brexit can never fail, it can only be failed! Also, I never got my gold shitting, rainbow farting, sparkle pony!!!”

    I love this:

And the prime minister knew that worse was to come. Next week, the Office for National Statistics will publish figures showing another surge in net immigration, which may have hit close to 1 million in 2022. Given that the Tories were elected in 2019 on a promise to bring net immigration down from its level at the time of about 250,000 a year, this would be a major policy failure.
    ……………………
“The immigration thing is huge, given that a huge part of the vote for Brexit was regaining a sense of control over our borders,” said Tim Montgomerie, the founder of the Tory grassroots website ConservativeHome. “Sunak has steadied the ship, but he doesn’t seem to the average Brexiteer as someone who gets why we voted for Brexit. Many don’t even believe he really voted for Brexit.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA….. Good times across the pond.

Elon Musk Says He Went Too Far Against Billionaire George Soros
The serial entrepreneur has multiplied his attacks, often deemed anti-Semitic, against the legendary financier, provoking the ire of civil rights groups.
What’s the difference between Elon Musk and a Proud Boy? About 200 billion dollars.
IMO Musk doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt on anything. From the beginning the attacks on Soros have had an anti-semitic tone, portraying him as a financier who pulls the strings. The people who latch on to this know what they’re doing, they don’t get a pass. And the notion he was a nazi sympathizer? Soros was born in 1931, and was 14 years old when WW2 ended. More likely that the people attacking him are nazi sympathizers.

  6. OzarkHillbilly says:

@SenyorDave: And the notion he was a nazi sympathizer? Soros was born in 1931, and was 14 years old when WW2 ended.

    From GS’ wiki page:

In 1936, Soros’s family changed their name from the German-Jewish “Schwartz” to “Soros”, as protective camouflage in increasingly antisemitic Hungary.[39][40] Tivadar liked the new name because it is a palindrome and because of its meaning. In Hungarian, soros means “next in line”, or “designated successor”; in Esperanto it means “will soar”.[41][42][43]

Soros was 13 years old in March 1944 when Nazi Germany occupied Hungary.[44] The Nazis barred Jewish children from attending school, and Soros and the other schoolchildren were made to report to the Judenrat (“Jewish Council”), which had been established during the occupation. Soros later described this time to writer Michael Lewis: “The Jewish Council asked the little kids to hand out the deportation notices. I was told to go to the Jewish Council. And there I was given these small slips of paper … I took this piece of paper to my father. He instantly recognized it. This was a list of Hungarian Jewish lawyers. He said, ‘You deliver the slips of paper and tell the people that if they report they will be deported’. I’m not sure to what extent he knew they were going to be gassed. I did what my father said.”[45][46]

Soros did not return to that job; his family survived the war by purchasing documents to say that they were Christians. Later that year at age 14, Soros posed as the Christian godson of an official of the collaborationist Hungarian government’s Ministry of Agriculture, who himself had a Jewish wife in hiding. On one occasion, rather than leave the 14-year-old alone, the official took Soros with him while completing an inventory of a Jewish family’s confiscated estate. Tivadar saved not only his immediate family but also many other Hungarian Jews, and Soros later wrote that 1944 had been “the happiest [year] of his life”, for it had given him the opportunity to witness his father’s heroism.[47][48] In 1945, Soros survived the Siege of Budapest, in which Soviet and German forces fought house-to-house through the city. George and his mother also spent some time hiding with the family of Elza Brandeisz and even attended their Lutheran church with them

@Mister Bluster: Stop bitching about the edit function. As I’ve explained ad infinitum, it’s not organic to the software and is supplied by a plugin that doesn’t play well with the other plugins. Having half your comments either about the edit button or “test” is not going to change that.

My edited reply which is in moderation.

    Sorry boss.
But I have to say that more than a few times when I enter T**T in the comment field and then hit Post Comment the EDIT key does appear in that post and the one before it. I then always delete the T**T comment and edit any error in the previous post.
Are you saying that I should never attempt to bring up the EDIT key even though I have been successful at doing that many times?

  9. OzarkHillbilly says:

The buttons come back if you click the refresh button on your browser because that causes the page to be reloaded. The countdown edit timer and edit button are also drawn — if some other conditions are met — when the page is reloaded. That’s why refreshing sometimes, but not always, gets a comment’s edit button to appear.

If only. Sometimes that works. Sometimes they come back after another comment has been posted. Sometimes they come back after someone besides me has posted another comment. I can’t swear there aren’t times when even that doesn’t bring them back.

If comment editing is not offered as an option, I hop back to OTB Main page, reload that, then click on the thread, and usually the edit button is available then on my comment. Basically, a reset.
It has saved me from regrettable spelling and grammatical errors.

As far as I can tell I am doing the same thing as these contributors are doing.
Why are you ragging on me?

  16. gVOR08 says:

@Mister Bluster: When I’ve gone into moderation it’s usually because I’ve fat fingered my handle or e-mail address, or occasionally swapped them. The system sees me as a new commenter and as James has noted, the system puts first time comments into moderation. Probably saves us a lot of trolling. I try to remember to proof read everything before posting. Especially since spell check has gotten aggressive. Others may note my proof reading sometimes fails.

Not entirely reliable, but I can usually get Edit by refreshing if someone else has commented after me. If I’m the last comment, nine times out of ten I can post a one word comment, refresh, and get Edit on both. I can then edit the real comment and delete the second

Yes. This is what I do. The one word I use is T**T. This has worked for me many times.
However when it does not worked I cannot delete that word.
As I understand it this is what Dr. Joyner is chastising me for.
I will not use the word T**T in the future.

We all know how fickle the edit button is, and we make allowances.

When you discuss the edit button, you test the edit button’s patience and risk its wrath. Sometimes we are blessed with edit, when we are of fine moral character, and have completed the unspoken rituals properly. I think the Buddhist non-attachment may also be necessary.

    How to Soundproof a Room

Some friends of mine who formed a truly incorrect band (politically, sexually, every other incorrect ly) found the “Rug Barn” and the lead singer rented it as his home. It had once been a display warehouse for a carpet distributor and every inch of every wall had carpets on it. They made some absolutely certain to “piss off somebody” music in there.

    Good shit.

Is it per user? I suppose I should test that.

What is the EDIT key for if not to be used to correct typos?

  35. Jax says:

@Mister Bluster: The Edit function is not something our hosts have control over, which they’ve said multiple times. It’s a quirk in WordPress. It doesn’t matter how many times you bitch about it, it’s not going to get fixed. Dr. Joyner hosts this website out of his own pocket, and allows members of the commentariat to comment, FOR FREE.

Our hosts have a Patreon if you’d like to donate. It still ain’t gonna fix the Edit button. 😉

@Mister Bluster: I don’t think so, but you may be the most obsessive about commenting on it. I solve not getting the edit button by not caring about my mistake after I fail to correct it. And with Parkinson’s coming on, I make a lot of typos. I also elide key words a fair amount of the time. I made that type of mistake on 3 different comments yesterday.
