For those of you without the ability to send TrackBack pings because of limitations of your blogging software, I’ve put a link to Kevin Aylward’s standalone pinger in the BLOGGING RESOURCES section of my left sidebar. You can also install his bookmarklet.
TrackBack is useful not only in letting bloggers know who has linked to them but in sending readers to the sites of said linkers. It comes with the additional benefit of gaining you an Ecosystem link on sites like Kevin‘s, Steven‘s, Laurence‘s, and mine that include inline TrackBack links.

Kevin Aylward has created a standalone TrackBack pinger that will allow non-MT sites to participate in this feature. Basically, TrackBack is a buggy feature that, when it works, tracks follow-up comments to a post on another blog. So, if it works properly, both WizBang and Amish Tech Support will get a TrackBack ping that will show them and any reader of their site that I have mentioned their posts on OTB to “continue the discussion.”
In related news, Laurence has also coded his template to actually show the last 10 TrackBacks right on the page, to provide added incentive to link him using this feature.

From Wizbang Tech: I’ve decided to make the front end of the Stand Alone Trackback Pinger available to whoever wants it in HTML form so you can add it to your site if you so desire. Here’s a 1K zip…
