A ‘Jersey Shore’ For Politics
The producers behind MTV’s Jersey Shore have a new idea:
Imagine Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow living in the “Jersey Shore” beach house with a bunch of rowdy friends of all political persuasions.
That’s the idea behind the reality show “Party Politics.”
Doron Ofir Casting, the Hollywood-based agency behind the eponymous “Jersey Shore” and “Millionaire Matchmaker,” has joined forces with a major cable network (yet to be disclosed) to announce the nationwide search for young, larger-than-life political activists and personalities to star in a new reality series.
“We want the hottest politicos in the USA, we want intelligent 21 to 35 year-olds who have had a little life experience and education and can argue their beliefs, and have the knowledge to back up the debate,” Ofir told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “This is a conversation the whole country is consumed by. We want passionate men and women of all party affiliations. Some who are true Democrats, others that are Republicans who support small government, conservatives, libertarians, capitalists and liberals. We’re going to put all these people in a house together, an environment which is light and fun, and see what happens.”
(…)
“These are the faces of the future, young political voices who share the common interest of wanting to move America forward but have such vastly different ways of getting there,” Ofir said. “But it’s a reality show too – there is an entertainment factor. They’ve got to be inspirational to look at, explosive and dynamic, or maybe find love across party lines… you just never know.”
A bunch of whiny hipsters sitting around talking politics? I think you can get that at any random Starbucks in D.C.
Hell, you can leave off the “in D.C.”
Wasn’t this the concept behind Hannity and Colmbs? Minus the beach house, of course.
I think this idea’s perfect. It admits what much of national politics, from the politicos to the “journalists” to the thank-tank spokescreatures, has become — a bunch of preening, vacuous pretty people yapping to each other while Rome collapses around them.
