I have a soft spot for art featuring roadways and paths leading off into the distance. Really anything that implies the potential for a journey or an adventure. Many years ago there was an art flea sale in a park and we got this painting of a lantern sitting on top of some kind of map with an old key on top of it, all on a small wooden table. Warmly lit, earthy. My favorite of everything we own (that is, of the things not painted by my wife!) When I looked him up, the painter had a solo show in some NYC gallery of his then current work, which was hyperrealist full of hard white and shiny surfaces. Amazing, but not my thing. I think he was clearing out his old stuff that wouldn’t attract the people who were buying his current works. So we got what I think is a unique and wonderful work at a literally flea sale price.

In color, sepia, or b&w, this shot really works!
