WaPo – The Kennedy Factor: At 72, the Senator Is Campaigning for a Kerry White House With Dogged Determination

Every few days, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy can be seen on Capitol Hill hitting tennis balls to his Portuguese water dogs, Sunny and Splash.

National Review Online’s John J. Miller had essentially the same reaction as I did to that lede: “Ted Kennedy has a dog named Splash. I am not making this up.” (Mine was slightly more colorful.)

Update: Apparently, Miller and I aren’t the only ones with that reaction. A couple of good ones in Michelle Malkin‘s comments section:

That’s like Bill Clinton having a dog named Spot. – Spoons

I heard John Kerry-Hienz’s dog was named Flip but he changed it to Flop…or did he? – Chris

Feel free to supply your own. Bonus points for a play on “Portuguese water dogs.”

Update (1/10/2006): Comments and trackbacks re-opened.
