Army Secretary Resigns Amid Walter Reed Probe

The second shoe has dropped in the Walter Reed scandal, with Secretary of the Army Francis Harvey handing in his resignation.

Harvey had only been in his post six months, about the same length of time as MG George Weightman, who was relieved of his command yesterday. Meanwhile, the man who preceded Weightman in command of Walter Reed, Kevin Kiley, got a third star and was named yesterday to clean up the mess for which he himself was responsible.

I join the Washington Post editorial board in finding this highly puzzling.

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Kiley is clearly a brilliant strategist. Create a mess, pin it on somebody else, then get a third star so you can clean up the mess you created.

Walter Reed has been a train wreck for decades and it is a chronic problem that is part of the structure of Walter Reed. Anyone who believes that you can change a couple of people at the top and everything is fine are extremely naive.

Supposedly Harvey was fired because he put Kiley back in charge.

That would be a pretty good reason.

Where have all the "support the troops" folks in the GOP who have running the government all these years while our wounded vets are being treated like crap been? Not supporting the troops, it would seem.

Get a retired MC sargeant major and put him in charge.

Now if you talk to me, YELL, because I got my hearing aid at Walter Reed USAH.
