CENSORSHIP AT THE GRAMMYS

CENSORSHIP AT THE GRAMMY’S? Matt Drudge reports that CBS is taking steps to ensure that Sunday night’s Grammy show doesn’t turn into an anti-war demonstration, including reserving the right to cut the microphone feed of offenders. While I understand the desire to keep the show about the music–and not alienate the majority of the audience, which, if it’s representative of the population, supports the war –this strikes me as silly and futile. A lot of the music of the performers that are being featured–Eminem, Springsteen, James Taylor, Sheryl Crow–is fairly political. If people want to listen to their music, it would be a lot more efficient to just listen to recordings. Presumably, one watches award shows to see the celebrities themselves. If they poorly articulate their political viewpoints, and this annoys you, then don’t watch. Indeed, that was my plan all along.
