Commenting Issues?

I gather that there’s a recent issue wherein regular commenters are having to fill out the name and email address windows each and every time they comment on the site?

Our new IT guy is doing some minor backend work, including experimenting with some social network sharing buttons, but nothing that should have caused this issue. He did clear the site cache as part of his cleanup but at most that should have created a one-time issue, not a recurring one.

I’m not having issues in either Windows XP or Windows 8 using either Chrome or Firefox, whether as a logged in or not-logged-in user. If you’re having issues, please describe below.

I didn’t have to fill out the windows this time, but I did on previous occasions today.

  2. gVOR08 says:

As I mentioned on another thread, seems normal now.

  3. john personna says:

On Ubuntu and Chrome I have to re-fill name and address, but it’s a minor inconvenience.

UPDATE: never mind, that seems to be the last time I had to put in name and address, just there.

  4. Jenos Idanian says:

It’s happening to me, but I suspect a lot of people would see that as a feature…

  5. wr says:

    System still doesn’t remember me.

  6. Ron Beasley says:

No problem here – Windows 7 and Chrome

  7. al-Ameda says:

it’s happened a few times in recent days …
I suppose we’ll see if it’s been fixed.

I have had the issue exactly twice. Don’t have a clue of what is going on. Something is not right. …. But I don’t have a clue of what it is.

  11. Franklin says:

Windows 7 and Chrome, had it several times today. But right now, closing Chrome and re-starting it, it still remembers me from a comment I made a few minutes ago.

  12. Moosebreath says:

I was having problems at work, and it did not recall who I am at home (Windows Explorer both places). I’ll post and see if it remembers me.

  13. Moosebreath says:

Nope — had to input name and e-mail again.

  14. Kari Q says:

I’m using a Mac with Firefox version 21, and I have to enter my name and email. It’s not a huge burden, though, so I’m not really worried about it.

(Of course, after confirming that I needed to, I forgot to enter name and email before hitting “post comment.”.)

  15. Just Me says:

I use Safari and still have to enter it every time.

  16. OzarkHillbilly says:

Did it to me again this morning, but again it only did it once. After filling in the blanks the 2nd time, it remembers me.

    I agree fully.

I think we have the problem fixed now. The page caching was setting comment cookies to expire after 30 minutes, which would explain why some were able to post multiple comments while others were having to enter their info again. Some of you may need to put your info in one more time, but those cookies shouldn’t expire until 2014. Please comment if you have further problems and sorry for the inconvenience.

  23. rudderpedals says:

    @Jamie Wilson: Thank you

  24. wr says:

Thanks. All fixed. Appreciate your work!

  25. Moosebreath says:

Thanks — seems to be working now.
