HEAVY BAGGAGE

The FAA has ordered airlines that fly planes with more than 19 seats to raise the assumed average weight of each passenger by 10 pounds and the assumed weight for each checked bag by an additional 5 to ensure that their planes are not overloaded. Currently, airlines assume all adult passengers weigh 180 pounds in the summer and 185 in the winter and all bags weigh 25. Having taken many an airplane flight the last couple of years, I fear 190 pounds is still way too low.*
