RECALL DAVIS

While I’ve been skeptical of the whole Gray Davis recall, I’m coming around. Steven Taylor provides evidence that Davis is ruining the whole danged US economy.

But don’t forget the problem is bigger then Gray Davis. The CA state legislature has a hand in dragging us all down too. We too often give too much credit (for good and bad) to the executive, albeit he (they) is (are) not blameless.

I evidence this with the recent strategizing by some Sacremento Dems to intentionally screw up the budget process for political points, all said whilst the capitol microphones were on. D’oh!

    Heh. Gotta love it.

I’ve been largely facetious. While Davis has made some boneheaded moves, I generally think the political leadership of the day has relatively little impact on the economy. I gave Clinton about 5% of the credit for the economy of the 1990s (for supporting free trade vigorously)and give Bush and the Congressional GOP about 5% of the blame for the current mess. State governments get maybe a little more credit/blame because of their more direct control over infrastructure.
