Russert Using Meet the Press to Pimp Son’s Sports Show

Mickey Kaus notes that Tim Russert constantly books Jim Carville and Mary Matalin on “Meet the Press” and that, on the most recent appearance, Russert got Carville to plug the latter’s new sports show on Sirius. Carville’s co-host? Russert’s son, Luke, a sophomore at Boston College.

Kaus rightly notes that this appears to be a conflict of interest and that it’s especially galling that Russert’s connections are getting his kid a national show while still in school.

What also strikes me as odd is an even more basic question: Why in the world is Carville getting a sports show? What does Carville know about sports?

I hear Carville on Tony Kornheiser’s show. He calls in and gives his football picks during football season. Other than that, well, it makes about as much sense as putting Limbaugh on ESPN’s NFL pregame show.

  2. Mythilt says:

Actually, Rush Limbaugh as a commentator on the ESPN NFL Pregame show made a fairly large amount of sense. Before Limbaugh was a political commentator / talkshow host, he was a sportscaster on the radio as I recall.

Ah, was announcer for the Kansas City Royals, so not football, but baseball. Still, he was a sportscaster.

Some say pimpin’ ain’t easy, but I say pimpin’ ain’t right. Sorry, was that more “hate speech”.

I have seen Russert a few times and can say without doubt that Russert is a pimp on everything.
