That’s cool. I’d like to see one for the Americas during the same time period.
And where are the dates?
Weird… two weeks ago, there was a map with dates and legends telling what major event was happening at that time. That video is no longer at YouTube. Instead, there this lower-res version, without the other data.
The data was only marginally useful because it sped by so quickly. You had to pause the video to read what was going on. Perhaps it should have been slowed even further, to 10- or 15-minutes.

Copyright infringement seems to be reason for why the other version is gone.
And this version seems to infringe on the same copyright.
I’d like to see one for Asia. China’s growth alone would be impressive.
You used the right word, Doug: fun. The downside of the graphic is that it encourages the erroneous belief that modern states existed more than a few hundred years ago.
I don’t know what part of this I like more: the soundtrack, or the transformation of the so-called “Holy Roman Empire” into a crazy patchwork quilt.
Ah, the Holy Roman Empire. Always good for laughs.
@Jeremy: They even showed the pink Swedes under Gustave Adolfus sweep over much of the Holy Roman Empire, just to be swept right out again. Well done.
