DEAN IN 2ND PLACE

Howard Dean has pulled further ahead of his rivals in the latest CBS News Poll:

Don’t Know 28%
Howard Dean 23%
Wesley Clark 10%
Joe Lieberman 10%
Richard Gephardt 6%
Al Sharpton 5%
John Kerry 4%
John Edwards 2%
Carol Moseley-Braun 1%
Dennis Kucinich 1%

What’s interesting is Don’t Know still has a pretty sizable lead over Dean. It’s also mildly amusing that Al Sharpton is ahead of both John Kerry and John Edwards–although still presumably within the margin of error. Maybe it was the SNL gig that put him over the top.

  1. My site endorsed Al Sharpton weeks ago. 🙂

  2. John Lemon says:

Unless the sample size is around 10,000, Sharpton’s results ARE (not presumably) in the typical (95% confidence interval) margin of error.

I’m putting all my energy behind “don’t know” though I’m not sure where his (or her?) website is. I think I will make up some bumper stickers this week.

  3. Sharpton also has some backing from Republicans. Maybe that accounts for his 5% showing.

  4. Scott Harris says:

Can anyone tell me why Clark is doing so well? The man is an empty shell and stands for nothing. You might as well add Clark’s 10% to the “Don’t Know” category because no one knows what Clark stands for.

  5. James Joyner says:

Scott: Methinks you’ve answered your own question. Dean is attracting a group of very angry, energized core voters. Everyone else seems to be exciting no one. Clark is an empty vessel for the Anyone But Dean camp.

  6. Monni says:

Let me invite Scott and James to visit http://www.clark04.com, and to watch General Clark’s appearances in N.H. at C-Span’s video archives — the meeting at Exeter and Wednesday’s superb press conference, in particular.

“Empty,” indeed! ANYbody who says such a thing about Wes Clark is showing *themselves* to be empty of either the facts or basic honesty.

Got a question about what Clark “stands for,” Scott? Think nobody’s “excited” about the General, James? Please visit the site, see for yourself, and ask away on any of the boards if you’re still confused. There are many of us who took the time to read and listen, and we are fired up about Clark — and happy to help you to find out why.
