BLOG HAPPENINGS

OTB has cracked the top 50 for the first time at TTLB, currently ranked #48. (This doesn’t count the brief prominence of Bizarro OTB, which made it to #18.) There has been a lot of volatily in the rankings the last few days as Bear works on getting rid of some bugs in the system, so we’ll see if this is just a fluke.

I’ve also been blogrolled by four more sites:

  • FreeSpeech
  • Sharp Knife
  • Rhetorica Network
  • Betsy’s Page
  • Thanks to all!

I have now incorporated an inline TrackBack feature, using code via PoliBlog via WizBang via Amish Tech Support via ScriptyGoddess. It makes it easier to see who has linked to OTB posts and “continued the discussion” elsewhere. As an added bonus, it counts as a link on the TTLB Ecosystem and should generate a modest traffic increase for those linking OTB, especially for less established blogs.

Speaking of TTLB, NZ Bear has finally found time to read his e-mail and has removed Bizarro OTB from the Ecosystem, having peaked at #18. I’ll have to content myself with my much less exciting #58, knowing that at least the links are legit.

OTB has been blogrolled by two more sites:

  • Hedgehog Report
  • Happy Furry Puppy
  • Thanks to both!

    1. Inline trackback
As is apparently all the rage these days, I have added inline trackback to Signifying Nothing and LSblog.

    2. inline trackbacks
Finally got around to hacking in inline trackbacks. Found at ScriptyGoddess, via a long search through the OTB archives….

    BLOG HAPPENINGS

Kevin Aylward has again moved Wizbang to a new locale, this time with a spiffy new site design and Movable Type. His old URL will host WizbangTech, a blog devoted exclusively to Kevin’s “various blogosphere tech projects,” starting July 1. Adjust your links accordingly.

Bizarro OTB continues to climb the TTLB Ecosystem, having hit #18. At its present rate, it’ll overtake InstaPundit before long if Bear doesn’t remove it. Still not sure how it got added. Meanwhile, OTB Classic is holding steady way down at #65.

    1. Janis Gore says:

It’s your chance. You have a big job now that the big boys are out of place.

    2. This is so weird; I’ve noticed a few blogs that are in there 2-3 times, but I always tend to assume that the *real* blog is the one that is highest-ranked.

James, how many people–given this situation–would publicly announce that the high ranking is not accurate? You are *the* man, and an example of integrity for all of us.

    3. Jeff Quinton says:

It appears to me (my blog which is very very new at its present location and name is a Large Mammal) that its counting all the links from within a blog to other places in that same blog as well as external links. That appears to be the glitch to me. I noticed it because I had very few external links the last time TTLB scraped.

Hey thanks for blogrolling me, and man you weren’t kidding about trackback being buggy. I got two trackback pings from you (one redundant) for this little blurb. I’ve also gotten wild errors before when I attempt to send a trackback ping. It’s still a cool feature though. 😉

    1. GETTING A LITTLE CREDIT
Much thanks to Arguing with Signposts and Outside the Beltway for publicizing my move to a new domain. I’m sure Bryan and James will understand that I’m basically just posting this to test ouf Moveable Type’s TrackBack feature. But you…

Jay Solo and PoliBlog are moving up the ladder in the TTLB Ecosystem
Solo is up several spots, to the 168th position overall with 123 “details” and PoliBlogger has achieved Marauding Marsupial status. Congrats to both.

Meanwhile, OTB is still firmly ensconsed in the lower ranks of the Playful Primates, holding at 88th overall. It has been added to the blogrolls at three sites, though:

  • Modulator
  • Cranky Historian
  • Reductio Ad Absurdum

    Thanks to all!

OTB has been blogrolled by two Movable Type weblogs, the cleverly-named One Fine Jay and Dean Esmay at the somewhat less creatively-named Dean’s World.

Dean is inviting anyone who wants to come to his place on July 19th to celebrate his 37th birthday. It’ll be “quite near the Detroit Metro airport, betweeen Detroit and Ann Arbor” and an actual map will follow. It’s a good thing stalkers and freeloaders don’t use the Internet. . . .

Kevin Aylward has outgrown blogspot and moved his weblog Wizbang to his own host and Movable Type(?) BlogWorks XML. His latest entry is Smart Growth In Loudoun County, VA (Or How To Piss Off All Of The People All Of The Time) – Part I.

Update (11:08): Cam Edwards has linked me, too. And he’s apparently super popular, as he’s facing the prospect of hundreds of dollars a month in bandwidth usage. Indeed, I hate to link him and risk shutting his site down with the provervial straw that broke the bandwidth’s back.

    1. Thanks – It’s BlogWorks XML not MT.

    2. James Joyner says:

Ah. I’d never heard of that one. I see the button now; not great advertising–it’s almost camouflaged.

    3. Cam says:

You’ve been manually added to my list of blogs as well. Keep up the great job.

    4. James Joyner says:

      Thanks!

    5. Cam says:

I think I can handle it. Thanks for the link and the information about webhosting. You might have saved me a bundle.

    6. Jay says:

Hey thanks for the mention, although I don’t use MT. It’s B2/cafelog (looks like MT eh?)
