Katharine Webb Joyner

My wife Kimberly woke me a little before 2 yesterday morning to inform me that her water had broken and that it was time to drive her to the hospital. After 12 hours of trying naturally, another 14 of trying with the aid of an inducing drug, and two hours of hard labor, Katharine Webb Joyner was ultimately delivered by Caesarian section at 6:40 this morning.  She was 7 pounds, 6.44 ounces and 18.5 inches at birth.

Mother and baby are fine.  More to follow, including photos.

Needless to say, posting will be light for a couple of days.

UPDATE:  Some early photos.  I’ll post more to Flickr in the coming days.   Given the lack of sleep and the ordeal, there aren’t yet any pictures of mom and baby that she’d authorize for public consumption.

We already have proof that Katie is one very smart little cookie — She came in time for Daddy to take the 2008 child tax deduction.

James — Congratulations to you and your wife. We’ll have to bounce our experiences off of each other as my wife is due today (probably will be late) with our first.

Hopefully Katie is figuring out that life is pretty damn good as there is now plenty of space to stretch out and food still comes when she needs it. I’m always amazed at how quickly infants learn, and I look forward to seeing how mine will develop, as I am sure that you are looking forward to Katie’s growth— enjoy, and have plenty of pictures 🙂

  26. Congratulations James. Best wishes to you, your wife and your daughter.

Congrats on the new addition. I would like to honor your new bundle with my favorite quote by Katherine Kersey:
“Children are given to us – on loan – for a very short period of time. They come to us like packets of seeds, with no pictures on the cover and no guarantees. We do not know what they will look like, act like, or have the potential to become. Our job, like the gardener’s, is to meet their needs as best we can: to give proper nourishment, love, attention, and caring and to hope for the best.”
