Mary Cheney and Partner About to Be Moms

A story that would have boggled the mind not very long ago:

Mary Cheney, the vice president’s openly gay daughter, is pregnant. She and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, are “ecstatic” about the baby, due in late spring, said a source close to the couple.

Today, it’s relegated to page C3.

UPDATE: Andrew Sullivan entitles his post on the matter “James Dobson’s Nightmare” and observes,

There is surely coming a point at which the sheer dissonance between what the GOP base believes and the way even the most conservative vice-president in modern times deals with the reality of his own family must surely prompt some kind of Republican adjustment.

You cannot be a party that sees gay love, marriage and parenthood as the work of Satan and have a vice-presidential family that is busy building a lesbian family as an integral part of it.

He’s right, of course.

Madmatt, watch the spelling errors — they create the impression of a ranting partisan.

You should probably edit the title to the post, James.

Mary, more specifically, is going to be the “mom.”

According to Virginia law, Heather Poe will have no enforcable legal parental rights because of her gender.

I hear John Kerry just had an embolism.

    But nobody noticed.

So what politician is NOT a power hungry pervert??

  7. Bithead says:

So does that mean that Saint Andrew the Excitable, no longer considers conservatives in general, and Cheney in particular, to be evil? Because he supports homosexuality?

You know, there are a number of people who have a great deal of difficulty with “one issue” voters, such as right to life people. What is Saint Andrew, but a one issue mouthpiece?
