PC RUN AMOK

John Hudock of Common Sense and Wonder has this gem:

The latest victim of PC idiocy, use of the word ‘brainstorming’ for fear of offending people with epilepsy.

The term “brainstorming” has become the latest target of political correctness, according to a charity.

Trainee teachers are being told to avoid the word for fear of offending pupils with epilepsy. Instead they are being advised to use “word storm” or “thought shower”.

Dostoevsky must be rolling in his grave.

Since his accursed B*S archives don’t work and this was several posts down, I just copied it all. Go visit him anyway. 😉

Update: Kieran Healy points out that, if you read the rest of the article, it turns out not to be that big a deal. Well, allow me to retort: It’s a lot more amusing John’s way.

How would those with epilepsy know to be offended if these dipsoids hadn’t mentioned it in the first place?!

    GACK !!

  2. PoliBlogger says:

    “Thought shower”

    oh, my.

Professor Vohokh had a blurb on this issue at http://volokh.blogspot.com/2003_04_27_volokh_archive.html#200219031 . I was affixed on his dilemma on whether the correct term was “American Indian” or “Native American” and offered my suggestions at http://tiglaw.com/blog/2003_04_27_tiger-rant_archive.html#93514516 I am unsure if either his or my archives are working correctly as we blogger seems to not be archiving again. As much as that sucks, if you do work on several computers at several locations, it is much easier to use a program you can access over the web than to install software on every computer.

Moveable Type is web based as well, once it’s installed on your server. I can access/post from any computer on the planet, as far as I know. At least any that use IE, although I’d guess Netscape would work, too.

  5. John Lemon says:

I give “thought shower” the “golden shower” award. Eeeewwww!

  6. Tiger says:

I have been some studying of Moveable Type, even downloaded it, but then I got lost. Getting it on my server seemed to be the trick. 🙂

When will somebody put a stop to this nonsense? Really. Please? Anybody?

  8. John Lemon says:

    Jen,
I’m working on it, and I’ve noticed that there are a large number of liberals and lefties that are starting to tire of it as well. As noted on my blog, “affirmative action” — perhaps the most holy shrine of PC — is largely discredited among a wide swath of people you would expect to be supporters.
