Trump’s Outrageous Statements Helpful With Republican Base

Shocking if unsurprising poll results.

Empower Project research director Neil Stenhouse points me to a recent Des Moines Register/NBC News poll of “likely Republican caucusgoers” and highlights this disturbing finding:

While I shouldn’t be surprised by these results at this point—Iowa Caucus participants represent the extreme wing of their party and those who are still Trump supporters at this point were never moderates to begin with—it’s nonetheless disturbing.

Mass deportations of immigrants is wildly popular, of course. But barely more so than rooting out “radical left thugs.”

Indeed, the only outrageous comments of Trump that seem to give any pause are “terminating parts of the Constitution”—which is still a 50-50 proposition—and “lock[ing] up his political opponents”—which still enjoys nearly two-thirds support.

Those who counsel that Dems should try and understand where MAGAts are coming from and try to convert their worldview, do have a point, if you are dealing with rational people. But there comes a point, that we are well past, that all need to accept, that Hillary was right, they are deplorable.

Biden Outrageous False Statement on the Hunter’s Laptop.
“There are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plant,” said the future president in 2020. Biden went on to observe that “five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he’s saying is a bunch of garbage.”

I’m gonna reconsider my decision to ignore Paul L’s posts. This is the second time in as many days where he has made me laugh. A post about Trump’s follows exhibiting unreasoning and sycophantic acceptance of everything he says is responded to by a demonstration of the what a Trump supporter’s mind looks like, to the point where it makes me wonder if ol’ Paul is just a troll pulling our chain. I know he’s not, but I can’t imagine how an actual troll could create a better parody

The laptop and contents could well be genuine. However, as Priess states: “the way it was disseminated and propagated through media. Those words are still true. It has all the classic earmarks,” he said.

It’s not at all surprising that you don’t understand the nuance here.

@Paul L.: Trump and his minions said Russian meddling in the 2016 election to help him was a hoax.

By contrast, the intel community you agree with said Russia interfered in the 2016 election to assist Trump — with Trump welcoming such traitorous assistance by publicly calling for Russia to interfere, by his campaign meeting with Russian operatives in Trump Tower, and by his campaign chair Paul Manafort publicly admitting giving data to the Russians.

Glad to know you agree with the deep state that Traitor Trump is a Russian asset and thus a national security threat. Progress.

I heard Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, both D-Calif. repeating that talking point as it proves Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election.
What law makes sharing private campaign polling data illegal to share with a foreign Government?

Sometimes, typos improve a saying. I don’t know what yunking is. As far as I know, I have never yunked, nor have I seen anyone else yunking by the side of the road. But I’ll be damned if I don’t want to yunk…something or someone or myself.

    “What law…”

    Don’t be a damn fool.
If no laws had been in place to prevent political collaboration with Nazi Germany, or Imperial Japan, or the Soviet Union, or PR China, or, for that matter, the British Empire, would such co-ordination and collaboration have been regarded as within the limits of acceptable political activity?
One basic of political philosophy: if you are trying by sophistry to argue that “it was not outside the letter of the law”, you are being foolish.

For those interested, the issue around the legally of sharing polling data with foreign governments is a complex one (and contingent on other issues in most cases). This is a pretty good rundown:
