Ann Coulter on Ragheads and Poisoning at CPAC

As bad as Ann Coulter was at CPAC 2005, she outdid herself for the 2006 edition. She referred to Arabs by the epithet “ragheads” and joked about the poisoning of liberal Supreme Court justices.

I was unable to attend CPAC this year because it conflicted with the Amsterdam trip, but Sean Hackbarth and Ryan Sager have the details.

CPAC is attended mostly by the people who man the booths and by wild-eyed college kids hoping to see some famous conservatives in person. I understand wanting to have as much red meat as possible for this crowd. But Coulter is an embarrassment and her words continue to get quoted as representing what “conservatives really think.” The CPAC organizers should be ashamed for inviting her back year after year and giving her such a prominent stage.

On a side note, the commenters on Sager’s site are mostly siding with Coulter. Sad.

Don't be so quick to throw Coulter out. This is CPAC, not the National Convention. Not quite the same as Michael Moore sitting in the booth next to Jimmy Carter.

She serves her role for exciting the base. Or at least the base that doesn't get all a-twitter after the call-in segment of Washington Journal starts.

Coulter keeps getting served up as the conservative columnist that conservative bloggers are expected to deplore. I think those who deplore her are taking her far more seriously than she takes herself, and that right there is something to consider.

She's laughing all the way to the bank.

I agree McGehee. Much of her schtick is tongue in cheek. She uses it to needle the libs, knowing that they'll get all hysterical. Some people need to grow up and learn how to take a joke.

She probably lost her cool, but I still like her.

First of all, who really give a big rat's ass about how Coulter is quoted in the MSM and the conclusions they come to and then how Conservatives are portrayed. I think most people criticizing her really miss the point. She has always used biting humor, some excessive, I agree. Conservatives who want to stifle Coulter should remember, when we laugh with Coulter, the left is incensed. When Michael Moore speaks, conservatives chuckle and the left takes him seriously. Let's not become overly sensitive guys here, you want to become another Alan Alda,"The personification of the Pussification of the American male." I like her, she has bigger conjules than a lot of guys I know.

Coulters comments are pretty typical of conservatives all over the country. That is why she is so popular. She rarely makes an original point but rather restates, somewhat succinctly, what conservative have already been thinking and saying among themselves.

Her disrespect of arabs by using the term 'ragheads' is no different than the disrespect shown constantly by the host and commentators of this site. Her words my be more inflamitory but her sentiment is shared by all conservatives I have ever read, heard, or talked to.

Ken, Why dude? I for one make fun of muslims and liberals, but most of, if not all of my fun is the truth. Sometimes people get carried away when they open their mouth, geee, I wonder if a liberal has ever been guilty of this, naw, couldn't be, they can say anything because they're "special".....And dude don't even go the don't got an original point route, PLEASE.

GA PHILLIPS:

You don't want to pay a lot of attention to Ken, He is apparantly off on another of his daily rrips to liberal land, you know, thats on the other side of Pluto.

He is just another hard shell lefty that hasn't seen the light of day for years, plus he is still mad that Gore and Kerry lost.

Thanks Herb, buddy, but its tough love, maybe if I beat up on him enough he'll learn somthing, but then again, maybe not.

GA PHILLIPS:

You are beating a dead horse trying to get Ken to change, One has to have something upstairs in order to learn and Ken's "upstairs" is to far out there, (other side of Pluto) for him to absorb anything.

Here's a fun little exercise... take every comment in this thread, and subsititue the word "liberal" for every "conservative", and "Michael Moore" for every "Ann Coulter".

lol! "ragheads"! Pretty funny actually. And hey-that's what they are! What are they going to equivalently call us? Non-ragheads?

Seems to me the really important part of this story, and the part most commentators are missing, is not that Anne "A little local fascism is a good thing" Coulter says stuff like this, it's that she gets applause, and even standing ovations, from her conservative audiences when she says them...

It's nice to see a few bloggers finally deciding it's time to distance themselves from Crazy Annie, but it's hard to deny the popularity of her kind of rhetoric within the conservative movement.
