That Girl Emily Billboard

Take your mind off the Middle East for a moment, and check this out:

This is an actual billboard in New York on 54th and Broadway.

And it’s priceless.

But just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…

Wait for it…

Wait for it…

The woman who had this billboard erected has a blog! With YouTube video of her husband caught in the act with her best friend!

Hey, don’t get too excited, there’s no hanky-panky. But her blog does reveal plenty of, dare I say delicious things she has done to exact revenge on her cheating husband–such as giving away bottles of his prized wine collection to random landscapers throughout the city of New York.

But wait, there’s even more: Emily, as she calls herself, is apparently just beginning. She writes:

14 days of vengeance. 14 days of unbridled revenge. 14 days of Steven looking over his back to see what’s coming next. Because I’ve decided that 14 days is precisely the amount of time I’ll still devote to that faithless and deceitful husband before I wash my hands of him completely…14 days of misery for Steven, 14 days of reprisal for me, and 14 days of fun for all of you reading this blog!

Now, I don’t know if this is some elaborate publicity stunt for something because, well, it’s a little too good. But for the moment anyway, I say let the 14 days of unbridled fun-soaked revenge begin!

UPDATE (James Joyner): Apparently, it is indeed an “elaborate publicity stunt.” I heard something on “Good Morning America” at my mother-in-law’s house a couple days ago about the campaign and there are several variants of the ad out there. Will Thompson has plenty of evidence that this is a “viral marketing” campaign, not least of which is that the billboard is running in NYC and LA.

I read a couple of posts and then began reading them all from the beginning. There was no single post that made me doubt that this was authentic but all of them together did. I agree with those that believe it's a marketing campaign of some kind and I also think we were meant to figure that out. People who feel that they're in on the joke will be more receptive to a new show/book/product/whatever it's about than they would if they followed the story for the next two weeks, believing it to be true, only to find that they had been tricked.

Come on, I don't believe it. I mean maybe it is true but I doubt it. For one thing, either her husband or the "other woman" cold sue her for defamation (while immoral they aren't doing anything illegal). And can you imagine the COST of all that? I just don't buy it. It is extremely easy in photoshop to make a billboard say ANYthing u want. And the blog? C'mon....

This was a very good publicity stunt, and whoever thought of it, is probably getting praise. Anyways, this billboard is also on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California.

I saw the one in Brooklyn & fell for it, but I think the whole stunt is hilarious. By the way, if it HAD BEEN real, it is NOT defamation & not actionable. Truth is an absolute defense to a claim of defamation.

There's one in Chicago, too

I, too, honestly believe this is a hoax. I watched the video supposedly taken of the husband and her best friend. It looks staged by actors. I am curious why all the trouble.
