COLUMBIA RADAR MAP

A former colleague forwarded this National Weather Service radar map of yesterday morning’s Columbia catastrophe, with the commentary “Freakin’ incredible.” Indeed. I’ve been away from the computer and television most of the weekend and have missed most of the coverage of this tragedy. While I’ve long been skeptical of the cost-benefit ratio of the shuttle program, we clearly need to get some distance from this trauma before engaging in that debate. Pathos seldom makes for good policy.
