The no electoral politics, no Trump edition.
- Today in unexpected headline via AL.com: Jeremy Renner in ‘critical but stable condition’ after snow-plowing accident.
- Via AL.com: Hooters denies it is closing for millennial-friendly rebranding. Well, that’s a relief. Although I can’t think about Hooters without thinking about explaining to my in-laws that, no, the main reason it is called “Hooters” is not because of the cute little owl.
- Via the NYT: The U.S. Will Need Thousands of Wind Farms. Will Small Towns Go Along?
- Via the NYT: Where Did All the Bargain Bourbon Go? Blame the Whiskey Mania. Since I buy bourbon and rye to, well, drink it, I don’t really understand the collector bit.
- Speaking of the mood-altering, also from the NYT (and from July): How Delta-8 THC Works, and Why Experts Are Worried About It.
- Via Wirecutter: Why You Should Enable Apple’s New Security Feature in iOS 16.2 Right Now.
- Via the NYT: Idaho Murder Suspect Had Been a Student of the Criminal Mind. An observation that is in no way intended to diminish the crimes involved. It I has been weird to see how obsessed FNC has been about this story (based on my daily lunchtime glimpses of the muted TV in the dining hall). I know part of it is that whodunit TV is cheap and easy cable news fodder, but the relative lack of coverage on CNN (the other muted TV in the dining hall) makes for an interesting contrast.
FOX has long had an obsession with missing/dead white girl stories. I think they’ve had at least one piece about the Idaho murders on the website every day since they occurred. They’re still doing stories about Gabby Petito whenever they can find some pretext. (I notice because it’s a local story. Her killer’s parents live about a mile from me.)
I’ve got the EDIT key so I guess I should add: TRIGGER WARNING!
