More Tales of Islamophobia

First, the NY Post reports,  Arabic mandatory at city public school:

An upper Manhattan public elementary school will be the first in the city to require that students study Arabic, officials said yesterday.

Beginning next semester, all 200 second- through fifth-graders at PS 368 in Hamilton Heights will be taught the language twice a week for 45 minutes — putting it on equal footing with science and music courses.

One reason Principal Nicky Kram Rosen selected Arabic — as opposed to more common offerings, such as Spanish or French — is because it will help the school obtain a prestigious International Baccalaureate standing.

My reaction:  this sounds like the actions of a school with an advanced curriculum and that anything that advances multilingualism is a good thing.*  Further, if the students do come out of school with a basis for becoming fluent in Arabic, it will greatly enhance their employment opportunities.  Plus, learning another language is good for brain development.

But clearly I am some sort of crypto-terrorist (or perhaps just a commuinist).   Just ask Andrea Ryan at Gateway Pundit:

Our “kids are like sponges”?  Yes, they are.  So, they should be taught about Western Civilization, and our heritage that is rooted in freedom, and individual value.  But, that was removed from school curriculum long ago by the radical secular Progressives.  Now, they want our children be able to read the Quran, listen to the draconian precepts of sharia, and watch Al Jazeera inveigh against Christianity, democracy, equality, and freedom in its native Arabic language.  When Communism aimed its missiles and armies at our nation President Reagan didn’t fold and force our children to learn Russian.

Leave it to the Liberals to try to completely destroy all that is good about our culture and turn it into something distorted, ugly, and dangerous.

Because, you know, learning about foreigners is dangerous!

Pardon me while I go weep quietly in the corner…

*As the joke goes:  What do you call a person who speaks two languages?  Well, “bilingual,” of course.  How about someone who speak multiple languages? Easy, that’s “multilingual”!  How about someone who speaks only one?  “American.”

There’s acceptable knowledge, and knowledge forbidden because it corrupts the souls of all exposed to it. Don’t they teach that in college?

I’ve got bad news for Andrea Ryan, 45 minutes a day for two days a week is not likely to be able to achieve her goals for the conspiracy she offers.

But it is interesting to see someone who probably was inveiging a few weeks ago about the ineffectiveness of public schools because of the horrible union contracts that prevent weeding out of bad teachers and advocating for charter schools as the only hope for education award this program so much pedagogical power.

  3. Janis Gore says:

Our friends’ son just went to Saudi Arabia with Exxon. Arabic might come in handy. Not that he’s been taught.

On the west coast they’ve been teaching Japanese and Chinese for years.

I went to school before the evil progressives built their brainwashing machine. We heard endless bromides about freedom. Accurate history concerning slavery and the series of genocidal wars the US government waged on Native Americans, not so much.

  5. Gromitt Gunn says:

When I went to high school in the 80s, we were able to take Russian, in addition to French, Spanish, German, and Latin. Understanding the enemy was seen as vital to our national security

When did we become such cowards? It is so pathetic.

    Greetings:

    1) Mmmm “mandatory”. I love the sound of “mandatory ” in the morning. It sounds like victory.

    2) Just because your “Islamophobic” doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.

And because it’s the Post, it’s already filled with innacuracies and hyperbole.

  8. ecks why says:

Informed rational freedom loving people have all the reasons in the world to fear islam. The twin fogs of political correctness & ignorance must be dispersed before western society better understands this menace. Even a brief review of islamic theology & history quickly exposes the deadly roots of this evil ideology.

Mohamhead was a 7th century murdering warlord who rose to power on a river of blood surrounded by thugs and gangsters using intimidation, violence, deception and trickery to expand their criminal empire while mercilessly suppressing and killing their opponents and enriching themselves on stolen booty.

The evil koran is a collection of sayings and speeches by this diabolical madman claiming divine guidance from some mythical sky-god which has inspired generations of crazed fanatics to abhorrent behavior resulting in historys worst ever crimes against humanity starting 1400 years ago and still continuing even today.

Islam is just another fascist totalitarian ideology used by power hungry fanatics on yet another quest for worldwide domination and includes all the usual human rights abuses & suppression of freedoms.
