OTB Exclusive: No Black Panthers Seen at Polling Place

***OTB Exclusive – Must Cite OTB – OTB Exclusive***

I just returned from voting in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.   At my polling place, there were no New Black Panthers, Old Black Panthers, or Refurbished Black Panthers.  In fact, there didn’t appear to be any black animals of any sort.

There was an African American woman manning the M-Z book, but she wasn’t wearing a beret or otherwise intimidating.   She was sitting next to an elderly white lady who had the A-L book.

Oddly, however, there was a black man at a precinct in Philadelphia.

  1. No panthers of any kind in the Virginia’s 10th CD when I was there at the butt crack of dawn, either.

Although there might have been a cougar or two

And if the Republican dirty tricksters around the country succeed in their voter intimidation efforts, those are the only minorities you’ll see at polling places.

Not that there’s racism in the Republican party. They just know that in the unamended Constitution, franchise belongs only to white men, and they want to keep it that way. Because, you know, freedom.

  3. James Joyner says:

@wr: I don’t doubt that there are precincts where white voters feel somewhat intimidated. Or that there are places where blacks are made to feel uncomfortable. My sense is that both phenomena are rather rare.

I feel like an idiot. I don’t recall the melanin content of ANY of the staffers at my polling place this morning. I just didn’t think about it. What the heck is wrong with me!!?? How can I be an informed voter if I can’t file a complaint??

That’s just what they want you to think. There’s obviously a Voter Intimidation Sleeper Cell in your precinct. Someone call Breitbart.

  6. Neil Hudelson says:

I had to use a mail ballot 2 weeks ago. There was no black panthers outside of the Post Office, but now that I think about…

Damn! I forgot to check inside of the mail box. I bet that’s where they were hiding. Grrrr…

  7. Steve Plunk says:

Actually they did show up at the same polling place where the controversy arose. Snark is just unattractive. I think Stewart and Colbert have influenced too many minds around here. And before anyone else points it out I’ll concede my sense of humor has been lost on certain subjects.

  8. Pug says:

You scoff, James, but there will soon be a Congressional investigation into this.
