Trump Campaign Raised $90 Million In August

Falling short of the market set by Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump’s campaign announced that he raised $90 million in August:

Together with his joint committees, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump raised $90 million in August, according to a CNN report.

Trump’s fundraising total represents a $10 million increase from his July total but still trailed far behind Hillary Clinton, who raise $143 million in August with the Democratic National Committee and state parties.

Despite its size relative to Clinton’s haul, Trump’s $90 million August is impressive given how recently the GOP nominee’s campaign has pulled together a fundraising operation. The Manhattan billionaire’s ability to raise money was a source of much skepticism early on in the campaign, but he has quickly ramped up his fundraising, assuaging some of those concerns.

By way of comparison, in August 2012 President Obama’s campaign raised a combined $114 million while Mitt Romney $112 million.

So, any bets on how much of his haul is spent on the election? And how much he will hold onto so as to use as he sees fit later? He has been lumping in the RNC money with his in these announcements and the press is going along ( I believe that starting with last month’s disclosure Clinton is doing the same), so it is hard to tell how much is actually under his control. But once that is determined my guess is that 40% will be spent, 60% held for later. And of the 40%, 15-20% of that will be paid to his own companies.

The campaign released just the total, not the split between what was raised for the campaign and what went to committees, nor did it release any information about cash on hand.

I will be interested to see the filings when they go to the FEC later this month…

@MarkedMan: Clinton’s headline last month was the combined total, but the statement also included the breakdown of how much was her campaign vs. amounts raised for state parties, etc.

Between this number and the tightening polls, I must admit I’m nervous. My hope that Trump gets crushed is dwindling to nothing.

Does Dante need to invent a new circle of Hell to hold that newest and most contemptible species of damned soul, the Trump Donor?
