Harry Reid Wants Nevada To Ban Legalized Prostituion

This seems like an odd road for Harry Reid to travel down:

CARSON CITY, Nev. — U.S. Sen. Harry Reid took aim at the world’s oldest profession Tuesday, telling state lawmakers the time has come to have an adult conversation about Nevada’s legal sex trade if the state hopes to succeed in the 21st century.

The Democratic Senate majority leader’s comments before a joint session of the Legislature came as owners, lobbyists and working girls for Nevada’s brothel industry looked on from the gallery.

Reid, who won re-election to a fifth term in November, focused his speech on the job creation efforts in a state hard hit by the Great Recession.

“We’ve recovered in the past and we’ll recover in the future,” he said. “We’ve met crisis before and we’ve prevailed. Winning is what we do. Winning is what we have to do.”

But for attracting businesses, Reid said “parents don’t want their children to look out of a school bus and see a brothel. Or live in a state with the wrong kind of red lights.”

“So let’s have an adult conversation about an adult subject,” he said.

When the nation thinks about Nevada, he said, “it should think about the world’s newest ideas and newest careers – not about its oldest profession.”

Harry, there’s a reason it’s called the world’s oldest profession. Although it’s possible that he just doesn’t want Nevada competing with the brothel located on Capitol Hill.

Harry isn’t getting a kickback from the legal sex trade industry in Nevada, like he getting from the gambling interests. 10-1 most of the girls in the trade voted for Angle and he didn’t like that. Plus there is no union for him exploit, like the casino workers.

If you’ve ever seen the movie ‘Casino’ the state senator character Dick Smothers played was based on Reid.

Damn, I get to the end and you already swiped my first thought, "I guess he only wants politicians to get paid for screwing people."

  4. Brett #2 says:

It's a stupid fight for him to pick. I mean, it's not as if prostitution isn't already banned in the main area where the tourists go (Las Vegas, not that the ban has gotten rid of it).

And even if it is banned in Nevada, it still will be legal in 2 US jurisdictions that I know of, Puerto Rico and Guam.
