    in 2008, poll-wise, Romney looked like Gingrich and McCain looked a lot more like Romney today. Then McCain had to make sure that the Republican base would turn out and vote for him.

    Considering Romney’s ceiling in the primaries he will have to work even harder to appease the base. I doubt that will work well for his support among independents and moderate Republicans.
