Anger Mismanagement
A South Carolina man is under arrest after hitting his girlfriend with an anger management book:
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) – A Spartanburg County man is accused of hitting his girlfriend with his anger management book while she was accused of stabbing him with a boxcutter, landing both of them in jail.
Deputies said they were called to the woman’s apartment Monday night where the fight broke out while watching a movie.
According to the deputy’s report, Sheelah Thompson, 22, claimed Tyler Ford, 23, strangled her and threatened to kill her several times, that he put her phone in the oven so that she could not call 911 and he “popped” their infant daughter twice on the legs because she was crying.
At one point, Thompson said Ford rolled up his anger management book and hit her with it, according to deputies.
Deputies said Ford had a deep cut on his forearm while Thompson had a bump on her forehead from the fight. The report stated Ford was asking Thompson questions about their relationship, about why she tries to get him angry knowing he was in anger management class, but she would only shrug in response, so he hit her on the foot and then the cheek with his book.
Sounds to me like they both need some real anger management.
Sounds like a match made in heaven.
You would think hitting someone with a big pile of BS wouldn’t hurt too much.
Question for the legal amongst us. If he instigated by striking first and starting the fight, wouldn’t what she did afterwards be self-defense? She exits, he calls/brings her back twice apparently to avoid the cops, it starts again and then after he strikes her in the last part of it, she gets him with the boxcutter. She was attacked with an inanimate object first, was struck first and attempted to leave the confrontation. Then she gets the bigger charge on top of that when they both get arrested. I know we have scant details but this doesn’t sound like a two-way brawl but rather an violence-prone person lashing out and provoking another. Am I missing something here?
@beth: Sounds like a match made in
heavenhell. FTFY.@KM:
The question is, which one is which? She got the more serious charges because she used a knife where as he used a magazine/book.
@KM: Except that you’re only supposed to use up to the same amount of force back. She went after him with a knife–that’s why the charges on her.
Standard Common Law stuff on self-defense.
(Considering the fetish we have about guns, I’m thinking she would have had a better self-defense argument had she shot him instead. We seem to allow anything provided the assailant has a firearm in his hand.)
