Politics of Instant Gratification
The Politico‘s Roger Simon laments the push toward early primaries: “The presidential nominating process used to have a beginning, middle and end. In 2008, it will have only a beginning. And then it will probably end.”
I disagree with his lament, as I have noted many times in past posts, and think the analysis that follows in the rest of his column is wrong. Still, that’s a really good lede.
As the late Mayor Daley said, regardless of what things look like right now, somebody will be elected.
I think the national 1 day primary is a good idea except for one thing.
The early primaries can weed out the field. One big one day primary might not get a clear winner.
It is going to be interesting this tims as there are true races in both parties just go be nominated and what looks like a real battle next fall.
