well the shops he’s comparing them to (waitrose & M&S) aren’t supermarkets in the normal sense. They’ve traditionally gone for higher prices & higher quality in an attempt to get the middle class spend in the organic food/quality ingredients market. So waitrose has 4% of the british food market but 16% of the organic food market.
In short Wholefood prices are comparable to their direct competitors and much more expensive than the normal supermarkets.
