Romney Campaign Repudiates SuperPAC Plan to Revive Rev. Wright Story

The Romney campaign is, not surprisingly, distancing itself from the purported SuperPAC plan to revive the Rev. Wright story in a series of ads:

Mitt Romney’s campaign says it wants no part of a plan by Republican strategists to attack President Obama by highlighting his ties to pastor Jeremiah Wright.

“It’s clear President Obama’s team is running a campaign of character assassination,” said Romney Campaign Manager Matt Rhoades. “We repudiate any efforts on our side to do so.”

What “character assassination” they are referring to? Your guess is as good as mine.

There’s a story about a Canadian PM (Diefenbaker?) who at the start of a rally heard someone in the crowd yell “Give’em hell.” He responded, “I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and it sounds like hell to them.”

I think the same thought process is at work here.

  2. PJ says:

Doesn’t character assassination require a character to assassinate in the first place?

    @PJ: Good One!

  4. Hey Norm says:

As I posted on the other thread…he repudiated charachter assassination in general…but not the Rickett’s plan specifically.
So in additon to being fact-challenged as you point out…he’s also spineless.

  5. @Hey Norm:

Or he understand the Streisand Effect and realizes condemning Rickett specifically would be self defeating.

  6. Hey Norm says:

Rickett’s is running away from this as fast as he can…but there is no coordination between the campaign and the SuperPAC.

Oh, man, it would have been great! Mormon on Church of Christ violence? Your guy said “damn America!” Yeah, well your guys baptize dead Jews!

  8. al-Ameda says:

Sounds like Republicans don’t want to make the Economy the central issue. doesn’t it?

Well then, bring it. No minds will be changed, and it will serve to energize Obama’s base voters, and he heeds the turnout. Republicans have already max’ed out in their contempt for Obama so nothing changes there. Independents? There aren’t any.

Standard Rove, take your own failing and accuse the other guy of it. But, let’s be fair, if they had to provide quotes and examples of what they accuse Obama of, they wouldn’t be able to run ads at all.
