Another Sign That Elizabeth Warren Isn’t Running For President

Matthew Yglesias points to a major new hire by Hillary Clinton’s growing Presidential campaign team that is a seemingly clear sign that Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is not running for President:

An awful lot of people in progressive politics would like to see Elizabeth Warren run for president, but the latest sign that it’s not going to happen is a big one — Mandy Grunwald is joining Hillary Clinton’s team.

That’s not a shocking move. Grunwald worked on Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign and Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign. So she’s a natural fit for Clinton.

But she was also the top paid media consultant for Warren’s 2012 Senate campaign. To take the leap from the Senate to the White House, you need to build on and expand your political team — not watch it shrink as key personnel drift off to other campaigns.

To be clear, this isn’t so much bad news for Warren — who has genuinely never given any indication that she’s wanted to challenge Clinton — as it is for the circle of people who’ve latched on Warren as the hypothetical Clinton-slayer of their dreams.

At some point the Ready For Warren people are going to have to give up the ghost.

Yes, another sign. On top of her saying straight out that she’s not running more times than the House has voted to repeal Obamacare.

  2. Tyrell says:

    Who?

  3. Tony W says:

@Tyrell: You probably don’t recognize the name because she’s reasonable and kind and everything the Republican clown car posse is not.

  4. @gVOR08:

I agree, indeed I’ve been saying for the better part of a year that the Warren talk was going nowhere. It’s the Ready For Warren crowd that doesn’t seem willing to accept reality

  5. jewelbomb says:

@Tyrell: I know you think you’re making a joke, but your implication that Warren is a nobody says more about you and where you get your information than it says about Warren’s prominence on the national stage.

That said, she’s clearly not running. As others have said, her admirers (and I count myself among them) need to find a new candidate to attach themselves to and quit beating a dead horse.

Must have been the only one who thought Tyrell meant Mandy Grunwald.
