The President’s Briefs

Bill Clinton famously told us that he wore briefs on MTV. Phil Carter makes a persuasive case that President Bush should release the Presidential Daily Briefs requested by the 9/11 Commission. While I’m a little leery of the precedent–from both a separation of powers perspective and in terms of future presidents getting unvarnished information–it seems like a reasonable step to take under these very limited circumstances. Perhaps a deal could be arranged whereby the Commission rescinds their official request for the information and the White House simply releases them as a voluntary show of good faith.
