Liberty U Update
The update you were probably expecting.
The NYT reports: Liberty University Brings Back Its Students, and Coronavirus, Too.
Mr. Falwell — a staunch ally of President Trump and an influential voice in the evangelical world — reopened the university last week, igniting a firestorm, epidemiologically and otherwise. As of Friday, Dr. Eppes said, nearly a dozen Liberty students were sick with symptoms that suggest Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. Three were referred to local hospital centers for testing. Another eight were told to self-isolate.
“Liberty will be notifying the community as deemed appropriate and required by law,” Mr. Falwell said in an interview on Sunday when confronted with the numbers. He added that any student returning now to campus would be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.
No one could have foreseen this.
(I hope all who are infected have a speedy recovery and that the school is able to stop the spread).
My previous two posts on this evolving subject:
Should have prayed harder.
Given moral hazard. . .
. . . it strikes me that the larger society should do nothing to help Liberty University.
Is Liberty a place of higher learning? Lol. Jesus… when ideology trumps (pun intended) common sense.
Who could have foreseen?
They should have listened to God.

Very sad. It is so saddening to continue to read things like this…
If there is a God, surely He is pissed off with what so many people are doing in his name…
Me have money. Me pray Jesus. Me saved. Me not worry liberal Chinese germ.
Well, if they were getting an education from somewhere other than Liberty U they might have.
I hope the kids survive, and learn some valuable lessons.
“Jesus can change your heart, but stupid is forever.”
@Gustopher: “I hope the kids survive, and learn some valuable lessons.” Well, there is this ‘biology’ thing that some Universities are pretty good at…
Sick schmick, at least they owned the libs.
The laws of nature are god’s way of saying, “Fuck you.”
When I hear or read stuff like this I get a twinge of schadenfreude. Then I feel bad because I try to be a good Christian.
Bottomline: Right Wing Christians like Falwell or Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne are doing their best to make me a bad Christian.
Maybe Nietzsche was right: The last Christian did die on Calvary.
Maybe Nietzsche was right: The last Christian did die on Calvary.
He was a Jew…
@OzarkHillbilly: Or, in the words of a noted SF writer: “The Universe does not care.”
Jerry was more sensible and would have kept it closed. He got Liberty into major college sports. I remember the time he went down the giant water slide at Jim Bakker’s huge water park at Ft. Mill, SC.
I know a lot of people who went to Liberty for undergraduate and graduate degrees.
